Owakudani Onsen is an area between the volcanic deposits and volcanic detritus of Hakone Volcano and Mt. Kanugatake. It's inside Hakone Nijuyu. There are no bathing facilities in this area. However, it is one of Hakone's best tourist spots, with many tourists visiting to see the rising white smoke and steam. At our hot springs, you can enjoy the special rich cloudy water flowing directly from the source. Owakudani Onsen is just a spring source, and the hot spring water that gushes out from here is mixed with hot water created by applying steam and supplied to various places. The spring quality is acidic sulfate and chloride, and it smells like rotten eggs. If you climb the promenade leading from Owakudani Station, you will arrive at a place called Jigokuchi. Here, eggs are boiled using hot water that gushes from the mountainside. They are called ``black eggs'' because the chemical reaction between their shells and the hydrogen sulfide in the hot springs causes them to turn black. It is said that eating one black egg will extend your life by 7 years, and eating two will extend your life by 14 years, making it very popular with tourists.
